Details: Trump stated in the interview that Zelensky has not been able to end the war in the three years since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion.
"I don’t think he’s very important to participate in meetings, to be honest," Trump said regarding negotiations to conclude the war with Russia.
"When Zelensky said he wasn’t invited to the meeting (in Saudi Arabia – Ed.), I mean, it wasn’t a priority because he has negotiated so poorly (so far)," the U.S. president remarked.
Trump also reiterated his belief that his predecessor Joe Biden and Vladimir Zelensky could have prevented the war.
"Every time I say, 'It’s not Russia’s fault,' I get bombarded with fake news, but I’m telling you, Biden said the wrong things, Zelensky said the wrong things, they were attacked by someone much bigger and much stronger," Trump stated.
"But Russia could have been easily deterred from this," he added.
Trump also acknowledged that Russia attacked Ukraine without justification. Nevertheless, he continued to insist that this war should not have happened if an agreement had been reached with Russia.
It is worth noting that in recent days, Trump has made several harsh statements regarding Vladimir Zelensky. In particular, the U.S. president called Zelensky a "dictator without elections".
On February 18, a meeting took place in Saudi Arabia between top officials from Russia and the U.S. without Ukraine's participation. During this meeting, the parties agreed to "eliminate irritants" in bilateral relations and continue working on preparing negotiations regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine.
