Details: Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah has introduced a bill proposing a complete withdrawal of the United States from 2025, which includes the country's exit from the UN and all related agencies, as well as halting their funding.
Additionally, it is known that Republican Chip Roy from Texas intends to introduce a similar bill in the House of Representatives.
"The UN has become a platform for tyrants and a venue for attacks against America and its allies. We must stop paying for this. Now that President Trump is revolutionizing our foreign policy by putting America first, we should leave this fictitious organization and prioritize real alliances that work for the safety and prosperity of our country," Lee stated.
Chip Roy argues that his bill is necessary because the UN "provides nothing in return."
"Despite all the money and attention, this corrupt global organization has been unable to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations, and even pandemics for decades," the Republican said, specifically mentioning the scandal involving the UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, whose staff may have been involved in the Hamas attack on Israel.
About a dozen other Republicans have expressed their support for the bill.
Recall that in early February, Trump withdrew the United States from the UN Human Rights Council for the second time.
