About Budanov. Is everything really that bad? - Peter Andryushchenko

The advisor to the mayor of Mariupol shared insights on why one should not trust retellings.
О Буданове: действительно ли ситуация так критична? - Петр Андрющенко

About Budanov and is it really that bad?

First. This is a free interpretation based on what someone heard Budanov say, and now, after some time, they are recounting their understanding of Budanov's words. In other words, there is no direct speech. It’s a classic situation reminiscent of a joke:

"Your Beethoven is nonsense! Did you hear? No, Nikolai sang it to me!"

Second. Even if the words of Kirill Budanov are quoted verbatim, we still lack the context. And context is essential. Without context, it means nothing. Nothing that conveys anything of substance.

Third. Who told you that the risks of initiating processes that could undermine our statehood have all been mitigated? The real question is — what are these risks and how realistic are they? For instance, could a tactical nuclear strike against us impact such processes? Undoubtedly. But how realistic is it at this moment? Minimally. And how realistic will it be in six months? No one knows. Therefore, these are obvious points that should be recognized.

Finally, on a personal note. Not based on hearsay or retellings. Budanov always responds to questions, but if you take a single phrase from his answer or extract it from the context of the conversation, you can create any horror story or a calming narrative, depending on the intent. Thus, it’s essential to listen to him in full, because his thoughts are very interesting and cannot be chopped into quotable fragments. Never.

Regarding the risks. He articulates many more than just the negotiations. But we return to the previous point once again.

So, honestly, whoever cited this quote clearly aimed to achieve the result they did. And that was not to warn us. Not at all.

Conclusion. Breathe out and work towards victory. And happiness will come to us.
