World-renowned singer Elton John announced on Sunday that he is recovering from a "severe" infection that has left him with "limited vision in one eye." This was reported by UNN citing CNN.
While performing at a gala concert for the musical "The Devil Wears Prada" in London on Sunday, John expressed his gratitude to his husband David Furnish, stating that he "has been my rock."
"I couldn't attend many previews because, as you know, I've lost my sight. So it's difficult for me to see him. But I love listening to him, and today he sounded magnificent," said John, who composed the music for the show.
In an interview with "Good Morning America" last week, John mentioned that this issue affects his performances.
"Unfortunately, I lost sight in my right eye in July due to an infection in the south of France, and it has been four months since I could see, and my left eye isn't the best," he said.
"So there's hope and encouragement that everything will be alright, but... I'm a bit stuck at the moment because I can do something like this (interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don't know, because I can't see the text, to begin with," added the singer.
At 77 years old, John publicly spoke about his vision problems for the first time in September. He shared on his Instagram page that he has been "battling a severe eye infection that, unfortunately, left me with limited vision in one eye."
"I am recovering, but it is a very slow process, and it will take some time before my sight returns to the affected eye," John stated, before thanking "the wonderful team of doctors, nurses, and my family" for taking such good care of him.
"I spent the summer quietly recovering at home," he wrote, adding that he is "positively regarding the progress I have made in my treatment and recovery."
Supplement
Although John officially concluded his touring activities in 2023, he has written music for the musical "The Devil Wears Prada." It is based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel, which was also adapted into a film in 2006.
