The State Industry Building in Kharkiv is set to be included in the list of World Heritage sites; there are ample reasons to believe this. This was announced by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, following a meeting with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, reports UNN.
"There is an important outcome from the conversation with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. We have every reason to believe that the State Industry Building in Kharkiv will be added to the World Heritage list," said Sadovyi.
The mayor of Lviv recounted the history of the State Industry Building—a structure that became a symbol of engineering excellence, bold design, and utopian faith in progress in the 1920s. It embodies modernism and constructivism, an architectural style that transformed the perception of urban environments.
"Unfortunately, last year the State Industry Building suffered twice from Russian airstrikes. However, even war cannot deter us from our commitment to preserving our heritage. The State Industry Building is not just a part of Kharkiv's history but a legacy for the entire world. We must protect our cultural heritage just as we defend our future!" Sadovyi concluded.
Let me remind you
The House of State Industry in Kharkiv is on the International list of cultural values under enhanced protection. However, it was mercilessly struck by Russia on November 8, 2024, causing significant destruction.
