Linguist Irina Faryon may posthumously be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. A petition regarding this has gathered the necessary number of votes, and the Lviv Regional State Administration has sent a letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was reported on Facebook by Faryon's daughter Sofia Semchishin, as noted by UNN.
The appeal, which Semchishin cites, states that the title is awarded to Faryon "for her many years of diligent work in the field of Ukrainian studies, significant contributions to the development of science and education, fruitful socio-political activity, and tireless ideological struggle during the hybrid aggression against Ukraine."
Reminder,
On July 19, 2024, an unknown assailant shot Irina Faryon. The woman was hospitalized with a severe head injury and later died in the hospital.
On July 25, a man was detained in Dnipro on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
The following day, law enforcement officials notified 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko of suspicion in Faryon's murder.
Zinchenko's preventive measure has been extended until April 24, 2025. The next court hearings are scheduled for March 10 and 13.
