The gala concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the National Music Award "Ukrainian Song of the Year" will take place in May 2025 under the slogan - "Songs Burned by War," reports UNN citing Facts.
At a briefing held at the Kyiv University of Culture, the idea's author, general producer, founder, and patron of the award Mikhail Poplavsky introduced the co-organizer of the current award ceremony, People's Artist of Ukraine Pavlo Zibrov.
Mikhail Poplavsky noted that a team of professionals has begun working on the project, nominations have been approved, stage design is being developed, and experts are accepting applications. The popularity of performers in radio rotation and television, views on social media, participation in charitable events, and concert activities in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are all taken into account.
The best singers will compete for victory in the categories: "Soul of Ukrainian Song," "Pride of Ukrainian Song," "Legend of Ukrainian Song," "Hope of Ukrainian Song," "Guarantee of Ukrainian Song."
"Ukrainian song is the genetic code of the nation! It always supports and uplifts the spirit of Ukrainians. The Ukrainian song resonates around the world, declaring that we are Ukrainians, we are a nation, we are a people with our own millennia-long history, culture, and traditions. And we are invincible!" - said Mikhail Poplavsky.
In addition to performers, the creators of Ukrainian music - poets and composers - will also be honored.
People's Artist of Ukraine Pavlo Zibrov said: "I am very pleased that you invited me to become a co-organizer of the project. It is a great honor and responsibility. There will be an interesting selection process. I am sure that both young performers and veterans of the Ukrainian stage will participate. We will filter each song through our hearts; that’s how we will work. We will choose the best. 'Songs Burned by War' is a theme that is painful and relevant. A lot of artists are currently touring to support displaced persons, military units, and hospitals, reaching out to the front lines."
History of the Project
"Ukrainian Song of the Year" is a mega-project that has promoted Ukrainian music both domestically and globally for over 20 years, shaping Ukrainian identity and uniting around the values of unity, love for the native language, and culture.
In 2004, the premiere of the musical project "Our Song" took place on Ukrainian television, at a time when Ukrainian music was not mainstream and the information space was dominated by Russian content. Creating Ukrainian music was neither fashionable nor profitable, leading to a catastrophic situation. Mikhail Poplavsky, along with like-minded individuals, publicly raised this issue, provoking public resonance. He announced an ambitious mission - to preserve and develop Ukrainian musical and lyrical creativity and to discover new names of young talented artists.
Mikhail Poplavsky brought to life his seemingly unreal idea - to showcase Ukrainian music to the world.
On April 2, 2012, the unprecedented project "Song Unites Us!" entered the Guinness World Records in the category of "Longest Continuous Musical Television Marathon of National Songs Live."
For five days continuously, from 5:30 AM on March 29 to 12:30 PM on April 2, 2012, Ukrainian songs were broadcast live to the world, performed by a variety of artists and groups. For the first time, the musical triumph of our state was witnessed on all continents, with the marathon watched in 150 countries. The celebration of Ukrainian song lasted 110 hours, 3 minutes, and 27 seconds.
The grand award ceremony of the National Award "Ukrainian Song of the Year" in 2017 was held by Mikhail Poplavsky in Warsaw.
The award ceremonies for the National Music Award "Ukrainian Song of the Year" (2019-2022) amazed viewers with their scale and originality, filled with energy, pride, and love for their people, homeland, culture, and traditions.
In 2021, the year marking the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, the award took place on International Embroidery Day, uniting legends of Ukrainian song and young performers on one stage under the slogan "We Keep the Ukrainian Wave Together!".
On February 16, 2022, on the Day of Unity of Ukrainians, the award once again honored the winners on the main stage of the country - the National Palace of Arts "Ukraine".
