Today, on Christmas Eve, the main four-meter Christmas Didukh of the city was installed in the center of Lviv, as reported by the Lviv City Council on Tuesday, writes UNN.

Details

The Christmas symbol was ceremoniously placed in Angel Square, where it will remain until the end of the holidays.

The unveiling of the Didukh was traditionally accompanied by a procession and carols. The procession included children, military personnel, honored residents of Lviv, representatives of the authorities, and clergy, moving from Rynok Square, the city’s nativity scene, to Angel Square. Participants carried small bundles of Didukh, which were added to the main structure, completing the city’s Christmas Didukh. During the procession, the choir "Dudarika" and the group "Dzherehelya" sang well-known carols, allowing the residents and guests of Lviv to join in.

The event began with a moment of silence. Then, Captain Bohdan Ben of the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine addressed everyone present. Afterward, the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, added the final element to the Didukh and congratulated the people of Lviv on Christmas.

The main Didukh was originally made for the city by the Kotsyuk family. Each year, it is refreshed with new bundles of wheat by the artisans of Shevchenkivskyi Hay.

Its height is nearly 4 meters. It consists of several dozen smaller Didukhs.

Additional Information

The Christmas Didukh first appeared in the center of Lviv in 2009. Since then, this tradition has become an integral part of the celebrations in the city. The Didukh symbolizes abundance, unity, and the continuation of Ukrainian traditions.
