“In what way does Ukraine obstruct Trump in the traditional sense? Ukraine is the first country that, according to Trump, had no right to respond to him,” emphasizes Alexander Kharabin.
In other words, he argues, this situation is entirely different from that between Trump and Trudeau, whom he refers to as the governor of the 51st state. Nevertheless, the expert notes, the US relies on Canadian resources; they are indeed partners and close allies, which makes this conflict resemble a tussle between rams, with neither backing down.
“Of course, Trump has awakened Canada. In conspiracy theory, one could suggest that this is Trump's mission – to awaken everyone. Well, I don’t think so. Ukraine did what, in Trump's view, it had no right to do – it responded. This means Ukraine challenged the largest hegemon in the world, the alpha male, the dominant force, which said: ‘I can bend Panama, I can bend Colombia, I can deal with Mexico, I can even go after Denmark, a NATO member.’ And they all quietly swallowed it,” explains Alexander Kharabin.
