The editorial team was intrigued by the reasons behind such actions. As it turns out, the explanation is quite simple. Four months ago, there was a change in leadership at the Inspection, which consequently altered their approach to work. Specifically, the Inspection has taken an active stance in restoring order within the region's forestry sector, particularly by combating illegal logging within the area and other violations of environmental legislation in the industry.

In just the past three months, the Transcarpathian State Environmental Inspection has uncovered numerous instances of abuse within the forest fund of the Western office of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine. Here are just a few examples.

Mass illegal logging in the territory of the Lazeshchyn forestry, part of the "Yasinyansky Forest Hunting Economy," where the damage to the state amounts to approximately 32 million hryvnias.

Illegal logging in the territory of the Lavkovsky forestry, part of the "Mukachevo Forestry," where the damage to the state is about 3 million hryvnias.

Illegal logging in the territories of the Velikoberiznyansky and Beloberizovsky forestries, part of the "Uzhhorod Forestry," where the damage to the state is approximately 4 million hryvnias.

And this is far from all.

During the same three months, the Transcarpathian Inspection has received approvals and scheduled four unscheduled inspections of the branches of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine. Despite the orders from the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, to whom the State Forest Resources Agency is subordinate, the management of the aforementioned branches has not allowed inspectors to conduct their checks.

Overall, the stance of the management of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine is astonishing, as they are effectively sabotaging any attempts by the Inspection to carry out environmental control over the forest fund of the Transcarpathian region.

Part of this situation can be explained by the fact that for the past few years, the State Environmental Inspection in the Transcarpathian region has conducted almost no state oversight (control) measures in the forestry sector, which is attributed to the position of the then-management of the territorial authority.

It is Ivan Martyn and his long-time unwavering associate Mykhailo Pavlyshynets, who led the Inspection in the Transcarpathian region for over five years and tolerated its inaction, that are trying to regain their positions through the courts and discredit their successors. To achieve this, they have formed a coalition with foresters who are interested in maintaining the status quo regarding the inspections of their activities.

Therefore, the accusations against the Inspection are fabricated, baseless, and part of an information campaign aimed at discrediting the activities of the newly appointed acting head of the State Environmental Inspection in the Transcarpathian region. An analysis of the documents provided by the Inspection proves that their actions are transparent, open, and comply with legal requirements. The publications themselves are aimed at discrediting due to the threatening situation in the forestry sector of Transcarpathia. It is evident that, in light of their active stance in restoring order in the forestry sector, attempts have been made to mask political and administrative attacks on their reputation. This is part of manipulations and dirty campaigns aimed at diverting attention from the real problems in the forestry industry.
