As confirmed by the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Sibiga, the expert explains that there will not be direct negotiations with Putin for now, and all further steps regarding this matter will be discussed with the new U.S. administration, which is completely understandable, as we need a consolidated position with Trump.

“Moreover, we will be competing very seriously with Russia here. It is evident that the Russian position currently, at least based on the statements from the likes of Patrushev, Peskov, and others, appears soft towards Trump, regarding assessments of the situation, forecasts, and how he generally expresses himself. If we recall the rhetoric that was directed at Joe Biden from Russia, their propaganda, their figures, this gang, the rhetoric towards Trump is not as harsh. At least as of now. I emphasize this point; we will see how it develops further. And what is the competition for? For access essentially to Trump, his administration, his team, to convey our position, to coordinate it, and to move along a common track,” explains Alexander Musienko.

That is why, he notes, Zelensky has already announced a meeting with Trump, although without specific dates, and their teams are already working on its content and format. Meanwhile, as Reuters reports, Trump's team acknowledges that it will take several months to reach a peace agreement, at the very least, and the promises of 24 hours were a combination of campaign rhetoric with a lack of understanding of the conflict's severity.

“As I said, this will take months, and reaching a negotiation position before autumn seems difficult and perhaps impossible. Everything will be decided after the spring-summer campaign; we will see what happens next,” asserts Alexander Musienko.
