The fight against corruption in Kyiv is gaining momentum. The operation "Clean City" has revealed not only large-scale land fraud but also, according to Kyiv City Council member Andriy Vitrenko, exposed the inaction of those who are supposed to protect the interests of the public.
“This is not just about a criminal organization that appropriated community land. It’s about those who should defend the interests of Kyiv residents but turned a blind eye to the city's plunder,” Vitrenko stated.
Who turned a blind eye?
According to the deputy, the silence of Mayor Vitali Klitschko in this situation raises more questions than it answers.
“Could Klitschko really be unaware of how his subordinates were distributing land? Is it possible that the 'toilet schemes' were formed without his knowledge? Could the mayor have lost control over his city to the extent that officials and deputies divide the lucrative parts of Kyiv with impunity?” Vitrenko rhetorically asks.
Shocking recordings
The deputy also drew attention to audio recordings that have become evidence of corruption schemes. It is clearly heard on them how officials discuss bribes.
“Don’t want an apartment? Here’s $100,000 in cash. Not satisfied? How about investments in the Carpathian resorts? It’s as simple as in the movies, only this is not fiction, but the reality of Ukrainian politics,” Vitrenko writes.
Money or community?
In the deputy's opinion, this situation is not just about bribery, but about a betrayal of the society that has trusted the authorities for years.
“While Klitschko remains silent, the question becomes clear: who is he really protecting? The people of Kyiv or those filling their pockets at their expense?”
What’s next?
Investigations are ongoing in Kyiv, and the community is waiting for answers. However, the main question remains open: will anything change after the exposure of yet another corruption scheme?
