This was discussed by him in the author program by Gennady Kiriya “Attention: Kiriya”.
“They are indeed managing to fight against it. Unfortunately, not to overcome it, but to fight it. As of now, as far as I know, around 250-280 Russian tankers are under sanctions from the United States, the UK, and the European Union. Specifically, in the 16th sanctions package, there are an additional 40 tankers,” notes Oleg Sarkits.
However, he explains that Russia is purchasing outdated tankers even from the US and the EU, from companies that previously used them, and is also building new ones. According to the expert, 32 tankers were contracted at the beginning of 2024, and as of today, 6 of them have already been transferred for use by Russian companies, primarily Aframax tankers, each capable of transporting 600,000 to 900,000 barrels.
“At the end of 2024, the first significant sanctions were imposed against tankers that were already close to the shores of China. Because of the sanctions, China refused to accept these tankers, forcing them to transfer the oil in neutral waters. This adds to the costs. Due to the sanctions and this additional operation, Russian oil is becoming uncompetitive,” explains Oleg Sarkits.
As the program guest notes, because of the transfer operations, Russian oil is now priced 2-3 dollars per barrel higher than the benchmark, making it less profitable for India and China. Furthermore, he adds, China has already begun negotiations and signed initial agreements to receive oil from Saudi Arabia.
As reported by Znah.ua, Karaev stated that for America, this agreement on rare earth metals signifies the end of the war in Ukraine.
