SubscribeAccording to the expert, it does not seem that the Biden administration is ready to announce an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO, although the opposite should be the case. He also recalls the statement from the State Department spokesperson that when Ukraine officially signals its readiness for negotiations, the U.S. will immediately support it and take appropriate steps.
“Zelensky gave an interview to Sky News and also spoke at a press conference after the visit of high-ranking guests from the European Council and the European Commission, outlining the conditions under which Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table. Logically, the next step should be taken by Biden and his administration. What step? An invitation for Ukraine to join NATO is quite feasible. This would be a consistent position. Perhaps the current U.S. president will still take this important step; maybe we will see an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO from him,” speculates Alexander Musienko.
As he points out, many analysts and media claim that Biden will not go for this because he is leaving office, and such actions are not customary in American politics; it is fundamentally different, with a legacy of power… On one hand, the expert explains, we idealize the U.S., while on the other hand, we see that the president pardoned his son, which in political science is called nepotism, or simply put – favoritism.
“The question is whether there is a desire, a political will to do this or not. That’s all. An important point is that currently, there is no political will from the sitting U.S. administration to invite Ukraine to NATO. Let’s wait; perhaps the situation will change,” concludes Alexander Musienko.
