“In my view, the most effective way to address the issue would be joining NATO under Article 5 through Article 6. Everyone knows what Article 5 is, but not everyone is aware of what Article 6 entails. Article 6 defines the areas to which Article 5 applies. Thus, the entire state would be included, no questions asked, but the protective umbrella would extend over the territories we control,” emphasizes Dmitry Razumkov.

According to him, unfortunately, the window of opportunity is shrinking by the second, and right now it is as small as the eye of a needle. From what we hear from our partners, the expert notes, it is clear that Ukraine will not be accepted into NATO until the war is over, but even without this guarantee, we cannot cease active hostilities.

“An invitation to NATO is like a ticket for a train that is unclear where it is departing from, which station, on what date, where your seat is, what else you need to do to board this train, and whether this train will even go anywhere and when. There are zero answers. An invitation does not resolve any issues for us; it must be either membership or another development of events. The president signed 27 guarantees. I am grateful to all our partners who assist us both financially and with weapons, there are no questions about that, but these documents he signed are worth less than the Budapest Memorandum,” explains Dmitry Razumkov.

Of course, he states, in the near future, the rhetoric of our partners will change not in our favor, and Trump's position is clear – to end the war. The worst-case scenario, the program guest reflects, is if Trump brings his plan without waiting for ours, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure favorable negotiation positions.
