According to the expert, the Pokrovsk direction has been the main focus of the enemy's attacks since 2023, and they are now executing those plans. He states that there is currently an operational-tactical crisis, with Russians establishing a foothold for an assault on Pokrovsk, and the outcome of this battle will determine the fate of southern Donbas.

“What are the enemy's plans for 2025? Movement has begun in the Lyman direction, and if you look at the map, the Lyman direction is close to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. The Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration is the third defensive strategic echelon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” explains Oleg Starikov.

Thus, he observes, from the south, the Russians are advancing towards the Kurakhove and Pokrovsk directions, with the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration ahead, and to the side is the Lyman direction, while from the north, there is also the Kupiansk direction.

“In other words, they are surrounding the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration from all sides, from the north, from the south, and from the east, where the Oskol River is located. So what remains? They will push us out in this manner, and if they succeed, this will be the third fortified area, which will lead to significant political consequences. Currently, the fate of the Russian-Ukrainian war is being decided on the eastern front, that is an unequivocal conclusion,” explains Oleg Starikov.
