“I am waiting for a phone call and a conversation between Putin and Trump, possibly in the coming days or weeks. The situation surrounding the Kirilov explosion increases the chances for this conversation. The parties will now try to jointly mitigate this crisis, as they are interested in starting negotiations. They might not reach an agreement, but Trump and Putin are definitely interested in initiating talks, and Ukraine also wants to begin negotiations, albeit with a transformation of this negotiation process in line with its interests,” asserts Ruslan Bortnik.

Furthermore, the expert adds that he does not rule out a technical final call between Biden and Zelensky, which would express gratitude for the collaboration and other matters, and possibly attempt to convey some additional messages or instructions to Ukraine, since, although the Democrats are leaving the White House, they still retain some influence.

Regarding Orban and his mediatory mission, he reflects, yes, it has suffered, and Trump views this coldly, possibly rejecting his services, yet he will not completely remove him from the board.

“Among European politicians, Trump personally trusts only Orban. I believe that Orban will remain in this negotiation process to some extent. However, trying to push him out of the negotiation process, as Ukraine is attempting to do… This could result in Orban remaining as an advisor to Trump, of course, his attitude towards Ukraine will worsen even more, and his influence on this process will become even more pronounced against Zelensky,” reflects Ruslan Bortnik.
