The topic of Greenland, the expert notes, remains a constant feature in American newspapers, and meanwhile, Republicans have even prepared a corresponding bill, indicating that they are no longer planning to seize the island but are proposing to buy it, similar to how Alaska was acquired from the Russian Empire.

“By the way, Greenland and the presence of American bases there can once again emphasize that this is primarily for containing Russia. Geographically speaking, Norway was needed by NATO to hold back the Soviet Union from the northern latitudes. Now, if we talk about the situation with Greenland, it is somewhat similar, as it is again for the purpose of containing Russia,” reflects Alexander Musienko.

As he explains, if the bill is passed, Trump could initiate negotiations with Denmark for the purchase of Greenland on his first day in office, which is January 20, and no later than five calendar days after reaching an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark on acquiring Greenland, the U.S. must present the agreement to Congress, including all related materials and attachments.

“Well, such initiatives are emerging, meaning they are not stepping away from the topic of Greenland. Although, in my opinion, Denmark proposed a very compromise and acceptable formula, suggesting simply increasing the presence of American troops in Greenland, and that would essentially cover everything without causing disputes. We'll see how the situation unfolds, but strategically, yes, it is important to contain Russia from the northern latitudes, which is why Greenland is significant,” concludes Alexander Musienko.
