He discussed this in his blog.

“It is extremely difficult to assess the situation for more than 3 months. There will be a huge margin of error because we do not truly understand the resources of the parties involved, their capabilities; this is a secret even for the general staffs of the armed forces and special services. Often, we do not fully grasp the actual goals of the parties either, as the objectives publicly declared sometimes differ significantly from the real aims of the parties,” explains Ruslan Bortnik.

Indeed, he notes, the shift in the U.S. course after Trump's victory was anticipated, though not in detail. In particular, the expert shares that everyone expected the U.S. to withdraw from the war, that the intensity of hostilities would decrease, and that assistance would lessen; however, the statements about friendship with Russia came as a surprise.

“This could simply be a negotiation tactic. Ukraine perceives this situation as very complex, as there is a wide range of feelings and reactions: from aggression and extreme negativity towards Trump from part of society and the authorities, to confusion and the expectation that this is just a temporary folly, a storm that needs to be weathered, and everything will return to normal,” comments Ruslan Bortnik.

At the same time, he adds, there is still hope for peace, that perhaps Trump, with his aggressive approach, will resolve this chronic problem and end the war, which cannot be stopped through standard diplomatic means. Thus, the expert concludes that Trump's actions currently evoke mixed feelings.
